AIFUCTO DEMAND IMMEDIATE WITHDRAWAL OF UGC GUIDELINES ON EXAMINATIONS
AIFUCTO Meaning – What does AIFUCTO mean?
AIFUCTO meaning is All-India Federation Of University And College Teachers Organisations
AIFUCTO expresses its dismay and disapproval on the UGC decision to conduct end semester examinations for all arts and science courses throughout India by the end of September 2020. By this decision, the UGC is pushing the young and vulnerable student community to the fast spreading COVID 19 pandemic. The UGC decision has not taken in to consideration the situation in various parts of our country. In several states, the Corona Virus is on the rise and experts are clueless about when will the pandemic curve decline. Further, it is said that even if the lockdown is over, the social distancing has to continue for some more time. In this situation, the conduct of end semester exams will be lethal, even during Sept 2020.
AIFUCTO urges the UGC to come up with an alternative and credible model of evaluation of students based on marks obtained in the internal test/assignments/practicals in that semester. It is to be remembered that continuous evaluation is more credible than one end semester evaluation. Further, it is to be noted that several universities in the West have decided to cancel the exams and award grades based on the marks obtained in the internal evaluation. It is to be noted that students who have completed their studies during Academic Year 2019 -20 are awaiting their results. Many urban students, who have got campus placement orders, are in urgent need of their pass certificates.
Hence, AIFUCTO call upon the UGC to withdraw the above said guidelines regarding conduct of examinations in universities and colleges and frame an alternative and credible model of evaluation of students based on marks obtained in the internal evaluation considering the unusual pandemic situation.
In a survey, more than 90% respondents said that they were not able to grasp concepts during online lectures
The overall consensus was that online lectures were not helpful. As a way of protest, engineering students had launched online campaigns stating that they would be unable to appear for the examination owing to inadequate preparation. As part of the campaign, they attempted to reach out to the Prime Minister as well as Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa demanding that semester examinations be cancelled and students be allowed to attend classes for the next academic year.
